It is my pleasure to see another of my former scholars, F1RST T1ME, doing so much positive for so many in his community. Like Washington “Wasi” Gibaja Tapia in Peru, whom I met in January 1997, who has been doing philanthropic works since approximately 2007, Rapper F1RST T1ME, honors the community that helped raise him.
Having taught F1RST T1ME from 2009 – 2011 at Manhattan Hunter Science High School, AJ was always interested in “Who’s the best Freestyler out there? I mean, raw-dawg, anywhere, anytime, with the ability to take the most limited of info and tear their opponents apart.” We’d both agreed upon Eminem but obviously there were two or three that were arguably close seconds or thirds.
Introducing classes to DMX, The Beastie Boys, Immortal Technique along with their already well-known Biggie, and Tupac, there was little question we’d seen NO ONE who could Battle Rap or rock up on a SLAM and throw down like Eminem.

As a teen, F1RST T1ME joined all the Poetry Clubs I’d hosted, culminating with his and approximately 15 others’ outstanding performances in Bryant Park’s annual Poetry [SLAMS] Contests. He’s come a long way from 2009 – 2010’s “I Am The Savant”, “Concrete Plant” and my favorite, which would become my world traveling motto, as I tripped “Into the Universe”.
I’ve seen the universe
I’ve taken its place
The void that was me
That shrouded my face
Looking at the void
Such an epiphany
To be part of this void
Was so unreal to me
Since then I’ve seen different
The world seems yet so vast
And with the thought of ending
I’ll treat my days as my last
And the forms of life that question
My simple authority
Have yet to altercate
Their very conformity
And yet there are the followers
Can’t decide, emulate at best
But to break off from my shell
Will be their real test
And with the realization of my time
And the amount of things to do
They ask me…
“Would you do it all again?”
I reply…
“Wouldn’t you?”

Therefore, when he asked me to use some of my nephew’s – FREEQUENSEE’s – beats, I didn’t hesitate. Kyle, aka FREEQUENSEE, who’d graciously visited my Junior Classes not once but TWICE in their 2010 – 2011 year, said “No problem.” Ky’s first visit was specifically illustrating how one can follow their creative talents; producing music [and any other Arts or creative pursuits] while holding down that Career, working for BG&E out of Baltimore. On Ky’s second visit, in addition to students Freestylin’ to some of his beats, I’d asked him to focus upon the need for improved writing skills within the Science and Math Fields. Many students had convinced themselves that upon entering those fields, little Humanities Skills would be required. Kyle had no problem finding an old 25-page paper from one of his Electrical Engineering courses, necessary for graduating two years prior.

Though F1RST T1ME was a superb writer, critically delving into all texts and sources for Research Papers and presentations, analyzing the deeper modes, motifs, allusions metaphors and other rhetorical devices, which are obvious in anything he’s spit, he definitely expressed interest in giving attributions to FREEQUENSEE for beats to be used in upcoming spits.
