The people you meet in a hostel or larger Farmhouse AirBnB can often make it worth the while. Annalies, from Belgium, has been my Partner in Crime since she arrived a few days after I had, here in Bela Vista, a slice of heaven in Southeastern Portugal.
Annelies, who was another Digital Nomad staying at the most amazing Bela Vista AirBnB in Moncarapacho, Portugal, just about 3 miles from Olhão, famous for their weekly Saturday Outdoor Markets; full of fragrant freshly caught seafood locally grown produce. Olhão, just 6 miles from Faro, with both fantastic ports of call to dozens of islands and other points of interest within the sprawling Ria Formosa Natural Park.

Here we are in Tavita. We’re heading to the Old Gilão Bridge to meet up with the women, Else and Gabsi, from Denmark. They told us to meet him near the Old Bridge and that’s the Old Gilão Bridge.
My Partner in Crime, Annelies, was slightly ahead of me, hoping to meet up with other women, who’d arrived an hour or so earlier by train from Fuseta.
We’ve noticed that in many places here, they must have gotten an influx of money from the government because all their houses seem like they’re been newly tiled [painted or otherwise redone], recently. Many others seem to be in the throes of gentrification? Is this a subsidized process or is it the Jones’ keeping up with the Andersons?
Finally, I arrive, meeting the three women on the middle of the bridge. There you are. Nice… Can you all say, “Do Epic Shiiiit?”
After shopping around for possible future places to stay, we settle on a place near the Danes’ favorite restaurant. I got grilled octopus, while Annelies and Gabsi split the massive seafood platter, with their favorite, Monkfish.
“I don’t don’t like bacalhau,” Annelies says surveying the steaming pot, “because it’s often dried out.”
That’s actually exactly how they serve it in most places in Portugal; dried then drenched in tomato sauce or other sauces. It’s a great fist, full of flavor and returning moisture with the WET sauces it’s been soaking in for perhaps 20 minutes.
Annelies and Gabsi and Else were they’re looking for maybe a room to rent for a night and Annelies wants to stay tonight and we found this one place. It’s kind of expensive 40 Euro for a Single room and 60 Euros for a Double. The Single has huge beds though, nice firm beds and they have this this Second Terrace where you can chill and sunbathe and perhaps get some work done.
Here in Tavira, Portugal we biked in about 15 miles from the Bela Vista AirBnB where we are all staying and the ladies from Denmark, Else and Gabsi got here about a week and a half ago, and they’re leaving on Tuesday and Annelies got here Friday after I got here and she’s staying until December 2022, almost a month AFTER I return toVermont and Rhode Island.
