Streetside eats with Thau and Linh.

Watermelons, which are one fourth the size of ours, and grapefruits, which are four times larger than ours and green, are some of the many fruits eaten daily. Jack Fruit, which smells like garbage and repulsed Bri and I, tastes surprising good–Michele couldn’t get enough of it. Several over spiny red, white and other colored fruits are peeled, revealing a clear glutinous seeded fruit.

Salads are made with spicy shrimp, calamari, and mushrooms in a light tangy dressing. Another was with octopus, cucumbers, shallots, chilies, greens and sprouts in a light citrus dressing.

Often vendors sell Salmon soup with dove eggs (small gray and black spotted eggs that taste exactly like chicken eggs),  with parsley, tomatoes and greens.
